The Bannamon–Baker Scholarship Committee traces its origin to the early 1970's when two members of Friendship Baptist Church, Oscar Baker, former superintendent of our Church School, and Raymond Bannamon, a Deacon, were being honored for many years of service. Because of their faithful service and dedication to the youth of Friendship, a committee was born bearing the names of the two honorees. Since its inception the Bannamon–Baker Scholarship Committee has worked diligently to support the youth of our church in their endeavors to pursue a college education. In early years the committee provided financial support whenever the need arose. In 1986 the first dinner–dance/fund raiser was held. Since then more than sixty scholarships have been awarded.
